1 Sweater, 3 Ways (part three)

20140113-114836.jpgHave you ever worn hair extensions? If you have, I’m so jealous, you are amazingly confident! But for the rest of us chickens, we’re terrified to even try them, right? “They’re going to look fake!” “People will know!” “What if they fall out?!” Well I’m here to tell you, it’s waaaaay easier than you think. I have no idea why I waited so long to try them.

As I was trying to find a third way to recycle this green holiday sweater, I wanted to do something really different, and tried this boho glam look. But I don’t have the requisite long, beachy waves like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley when she wears a floppy hat. So I decided to fake it.

I went to Ulta, and looked at the entire row devoted to extensions, and was a little overwhelmed. But once I figured out what color I needed for my grown-out ombré, it was ridiculously easy to put them in and actually wear them. These are the hairdo. 16″ Ombré Extension by Ken Paves – yes, Jessica Simpson’s hairstylist. You clip up the top half of your hair, snap in the extensions with the six super strong clips (these extensions will NOT budge), then let down the top half of your hair over them, and just blend it all together. Voila! Long glamorous hair!

And you know what, if others find out that they’re fake, who cares?! It’s a fun temporary accessory, and if you feel like a Victoria’s Secret supermodel for a few hours, then that’s all that matters 🙂

1 Sweater, 3 Ways (part two)

Hi everyone! Welcome to part two of “how to recycle a holiday sweater”. Yesterday we took this festive green sweater and turned it into a polished everyday work outfit. Now we’re going to make it a little edgier, just by changing out the accessories. Add a pretty-freaking-realistic faux leather jacket, studded oxfords (on sale right now!), a studded bag, and my favorite Warby Parker frames, and you’ve got a great city-chic alternative. Just a few little tweaks, that’s it!

Tomorrow we’re going boho glam for part three…. So excited!

1 Sweater, 3 Ways (part one)

20140109-154738.jpg

So I ordered this gorgeous sparkly green sweater from J.Crew, thinking it could be a cool option for some holiday parties.  And it was.  But now that it’s January, how do you take your holiday clothes and wear them with “normal” outfits for the rest of the year?  I almost just folded up this beauty and shoved it in the back of the closet, where it would sit until next December.  But then one night, as is typical for me at least five times per week, my sleep was interrupted by a fashion nightmare. “No, this sweater will NOT defeat me! I will make it cool for everyday outfits! There have got to be several ways to style it… I will conquer this sweater!!!”

So, here is part 1 of 3 different looks with this seemingly non-versatile sweater. This one could be called the ‘polished casual’ version. Something I could wear to work, or out shopping. I decided to actually put more jewelry over it, to layer the beading at the neckline. And I dig it. Gonna do it more often, in fact. And these loafers? O.M.G. They are soooo comfortable, so if you’ve been eyeing them on other bloggers, you should go for it!

*** And they are both 40% off right now at J.Crew.com with code TAKENOTE!!! ***

Next post will be the ‘edgy casual’ version of said sweater… Stay tuned!

And thank you again to the fabulous Kari Jenkins for helping to capture this moment of holiday-sweater-recycling coolness 😊

Today is a fun-filled day of holiday shopping, and I have to admit, I’m feeling lazy, so I used the oldest trick in the book: throw on a classic khaki belted trench, and you have instant chic!

This one is a little bit shorter in length, a little flirtier, belted nice and tight to create that ladylike flare.  I also can’t stop wearing these fab Jean-Michel Cazabat pumps, they are a ridiculously gorgeous Marant knockoff, and yet strangely comfortable.  You will be seeing these beauties quite often 😉

Wishing you all luck as you conquer the crowds this weekend to get your shopping done, too!

Yup. Valentino.

photo-2I’ve had a pair of Valentino Rockstud kitten heels for awhile now, the black patent with nude leather trim, you know the ones?  But I was craving another pair.  Something more fun, more edgy.  I saw the leopard rockstuds on presale at Saks, and I waited patiently for them to arrive… six months later.  It was torture!

But now I’m having so much fun pairing them with just about everything… skirts, skinnies, leather, denim, etc.

This is also the first photo “shoot” with my best friend of 15 years, when I was visiting her for Thanksgiving and just knew I had to start this fashion blog.  She told me to stop dreaming, go put on one of my outfit obsessions, and to get my fanny outside so we could start documenting it and making it a reality!

And she was right.  She always is.  Cynthia is an amazing attorney, but she also makes a pretty freakin’ amazing fashion photographer, don’t you think?!?!

There is no one like your bestie to tell you to “suck it in, your stomach looks weird”.  And it’s not even offensive… it’s the person who knows you best, and wants you to look and feel your best 🙂

So, I hope you like the little journey we took in these gorgeous Valentinos… there is more to come!  Stay tuned!

The BEST aviators…for those afraid of aviators…

Is it just me, or do Ray-Ban aviators look good on everyone else, but I find them to look ridiculous when I try to wear them?  Surely there must be others out there who feel the same?

I don’t have that perfect, perky little nose.  Or perfectly shaped cheekbones.  So that classic, teardrop Ray-Ban shape just doesn’t look good on me.  So frustrating!

So I set out to find some aviators, and gosh darn it, I wasn’t coming home until I succeeded!

Enter CHANEL.

After trying on a gazillion pairs of glasses at my local Solstice store, the salesgal finally said, “well, I do have a new pair of Chanel frames that I haven’t tagged yet, but you could try them on…”

Ummmmm, of course they’re perfect.  They’re Chanel… obvi.

She told me they have the new “glitter lens”, which almost sent me packing.  I didn’t want some weird sparkly sunglasses that make me look like a preteen, I’m 35 years old for gosh sake!  But they simply just make the lens look more mirrored in the sunlight.  Phew!

So they’re perfect.  With everything.  Dressy, casual, edgy, glam, girlie… they work with everything!  I was so excited at my new discovery that I had to take a shameless car selfie as soon as I left the store!  🙂

Who knew?! J.Crew has the best bling! photo-3

Lulu Frost for J.Crew.   J.Crew jeweled triangle necklace.

For years I have found great costume jewelry from J.Crew, but lately… WOW!  They have really stepped up their game, and might be THE best place to get statement pieces these days.  And they’re always perfect for layering, too.

My favorite thing to do is throw on two sparkly beauties with a simple crewneck sweater, skinny jeans, and ankle boots (Rag & Bone Harrow?  Acne pistol?).  It instantly ups your style quotient, without much fuss.

Have a great fashion day!

Welcome to my fashion and style blog!

It’s been long overdue for me to share my creativity and passion with the masses. I, like many others before me, have long suffered from the compulsion to memorize every new item from my favorite stores and designers, and dream of new and interesting ways to put those items together. It often wakes me in the middle of the night…”OMG, what if I wore the Zara coat, with the Valentino shoes, the Chanel glasses, and the J Brand leather skinnies… yes, YES!”

Or when I see a cool pair of ankle booties on one of my favorite bloggers or celebs, and I subsequently spend the next two hours, manically searching online to find them, which leads me to then find five fabulous variations of said ankle bootie, all of which I purchase in a fit of online binge-shopping… (we’ve all done it, it’s okay to admit it).

People always tell me that my outfits are “cool”, so I must be doing something right.

So it’s time I embrace it all. When I find that perfect outfit, or those five (*cringe*) perfect ankle booties, I will share it with you, in the hopes that maybe, just maybe, it will inspire you, too. Because that’s what fashion is all about, right? Buying a new dress that makes you feel like a supermodel, and being soooo excited to wear it the next day that you can barely sleep. Or simply being inspired by someone else, and getting excited to look in your own closet and put together an outfit that makes you feel happy, stylish, edgy, pretty, unique — whatever you’re going for.

I hope I can help you achieve that, by sharing what’s running through my head… as neurotic as that may be  🙂

Enjoy!
