Shearling + Fire

Gosh, red lipstick is hard to pull off sometimes, right?  Finding the right shade of red is the first challenge, but then I feel like the entire time you’re wearing it, you’re constantly nervous about whether it’s migrated outside your lip line, onto your teeth, or onto whatever you’re wearing.  It’s hard to relax when you’re wearing a red lip.  I’m always on high alert.

So needless to say, I was terrified when Julie told me she wanted to try something bold, and subsequently retrieved the loudest, brightest red lipstick out of her makeup palette.  I’m pretty sure I looked horrified.  But when Julie is having a beauty ‘vision’, you don’t question it.  You just go with it.  You close your eyes and let her make a masterpiece.

Behold… Julie’s signature cat eye liner with a super-mega-bright lip… yes you can pull off both at the same time 🙂

P.S. – I stalked this shearling bomber jacket from TopShop for MONTHS until they re-stocked my size.  Yes, the collar was a little overbearing at first, but it always makes a feminine outfit just a little bit grittier, tougher.  Check out the link to the faux one below by Lily Aldridge for Velvet…

Leather ‘n Lime

If you are reading this blog post and are currently wearing various shades of grey, or brown, maybe navy, or perhaps black… This is an Intervention. 🙂

Time to TURN UP THE COLOR!! Even if it’s just a bright scarf, or really fun socks. Start small if you want to. Have fun with your outfits every day, wear vibrant colors that make you happy, colors that make you glow. Because wearing all black might be slimming, but it sure doesn’t do much to illuminate your complexion and your radiance.

And the best part? You don’t have to spend a lot of money to make this change. This bright lime green sweater? Old Navy. $15. And it takes this average black & grey outfit from boring to exciting, IMHO 🙂

Also making an appearance are my faaaaavorite leather leggings from J.Brand, last seen here and here. They seriously go with everything. I always advocate that you invest in the classic pieces, and save on the trendy ones.

Okay, so let’s recap: our 2015 wardrobe resolution is to Wear. More. Color.

Happy shopping!

Winter & Summer Blues

We all love it when the weather begins to get warmer and Spring arrives. But do you ever feel slightly disappointed that you can no longer wear all your fun Winter clothes? It’s such a sad day when I move all my boots and sweaters into storage (a.k.a., the guest bedroom closet). No more wool trench, over-the-knee boots, leather gloves, or chunky cable turtleneck. Sad. Just sad.

But the sadness quickly dissipates once I realize that I don’t have to say goodbye to all my winter clothes. Some can easily be repurposed and made fresh again with just a change of the accessories. Like the ubiquitous baby blue mini skirt, that was EVERYWHERE this winter, on every blogger and in every magazine. It’s got a thick, almost neoprene texture, so it’s tough enough to wear in cold weather, but the silhouette and color just scream ‘Spring!’

On a chilly day I’ve paired it with black OTK boots and a wool moto jacket. But then it can also go classic “girly” with a floaty ethereal blouse. So much fun!!

So before you put away your winter items, think twice whether you could still wear it with shorts instead of jeans, or with a tank top instead of a sweater. Your wardrobe just might be bigger than you think 😉

Yup. Valentino.

photo-2I’ve had a pair of Valentino Rockstud kitten heels for awhile now, the black patent with nude leather trim, you know the ones?  But I was craving another pair.  Something more fun, more edgy.  I saw the leopard rockstuds on presale at Saks, and I waited patiently for them to arrive… six months later.  It was torture!

But now I’m having so much fun pairing them with just about everything… skirts, skinnies, leather, denim, etc.

This is also the first photo “shoot” with my best friend of 15 years, when I was visiting her for Thanksgiving and just knew I had to start this fashion blog.  She told me to stop dreaming, go put on one of my outfit obsessions, and to get my fanny outside so we could start documenting it and making it a reality!

And she was right.  She always is.  Cynthia is an amazing attorney, but she also makes a pretty freakin’ amazing fashion photographer, don’t you think?!?!

There is no one like your bestie to tell you to “suck it in, your stomach looks weird”.  And it’s not even offensive… it’s the person who knows you best, and wants you to look and feel your best 🙂

So, I hope you like the little journey we took in these gorgeous Valentinos… there is more to come!  Stay tuned!
